A 301 redirect tells search engines to transfer all ranking signals to the new URL permanently. Use 302 only for temporary changes like A/B tests or maintenance pages.

Redirect loops (A→B→A) and chains (A→B→C→D) kill crawl budget and slow user experience. After deploying, verify each redirect resolves in a single hop.

About the Redirect Generator

A 301 is permanent — it tells search engines to transfer all ranking signals to the new URL. A 302 is temporary — the old URL retains its rankings. Use 301 for site migrations and URL changes, 302 for A/B tests or temporary maintenance.

There is no hard limit, but redirect chains (A→B→C) hurt performance. Keep chains to a maximum of one hop. Google will crawl up to 5 hops but may not pass full link equity through long chains.
